MISSION STATEMENT

SILENT VOICES SPEAK started out as Silent Voices: A Writer’s Workshop, as the first group at the drop-in center at the Broadway location of Community Counseling Centers of Chicago, whose purpose is to empower it’s attendees to form and attend their own groups.

We have branched out as an independent entity. We are silent no more. We say yes to the creative possibilities of life & art...

The mission of SILENT VOICES SPEAK is to give a voice to people who are disenfranchised. Many of the participants in SILENT VOICES SPEAK are also visual and/or performing artists.

Membership is open to all.

Facing The Storm by Sharon H.

I'm Bleeding
within
my body, my heart,
through the eyes of
Pain and Fear
not much is clear.
Trying to Survive
get through another day,
trying to be
Strong
when all I really long
is to be held,
sat with, through
whatever storms
that surround me.
Through the pouring rains
of tears, the
blustery winds and thunder
of anger and frustration,
the fear that fills the sky
with lightning strikes.
To know there is safety
comfort
no matter
the storms that lay ahead.
To Breathe...Deep
into my core
and Trust that
when the Final Storm
with its Ferocious
Destruction
is staring me down-
I will be okay...
even in my demise...
because I will know,
through to the end-
I am not alone.
